You might not be so familiar with the work of jewellery designer and Goldsmith Michael John but you’ve seen the work of this young jeweller in shops and boutiques everywhere. And I mean everywhere. I’m not at liberty to tell you who he has made work for but you would be amazed, as was I. Michael initially carved his teeth on the diamond jewellery side of things, using ‘top stones’ but wanted to get into his own street end styling, with a younger, cheekier style. He started at Hatton Garden – the centre of the London jewellery trade (since medieval times). I asked him if he’d return to diamond work he said absolutely - “ Using top stones, and working with beautiful stones is an addiction. When you have a sapphire just sitting on your desk, how could it not be,” he laughs.
