“ A man reading at a bus stop; a couple out shopping; two teenagers skulking around a strip of bars... whatever the situation, the fashion is eye-catching and the comments are sharp and thoughtful. “ - Grazia online - 2012.

Jerusalem. Aotearoa.

I'm saying watch out for this. How Far Is Heaven is an intimate portrait of the nuns and the local Maori community of Jerusalem on the Whanganui River.

The Sisters of Compassion have lived in the remote village of Jerusalem on Whanganui River in New Zealand for 120 years. Three nuns remain - their legacy on the river is coming to an end. This is a complex world of powerful dualities; Maori & Christian spirituality, gang parties & prayers, pig hunting and perfume appreciation...

Over a year, the film follows the journey of Sister Margaret Mary, the newest Sister to Jerusalem, who is a regular volunteer at the local school. Throughout all seasons, the Sisters’ daily practice of compassion engages with the traditions of local Maori.

Good local, and original, subject matter. In Cinemas later this month.
